Opioid Settlement Funds Advisory Committee
On November 21, 2024, the City Council adopted an Opioid Settlement Money Allocation Policy (the “Policy”) regarding the disbursement of opioid settlement funds that flowed to the City as a result of legal settlements related to the widespread marketing of opioids. See Council Order 24-179, which order is incorporated herein by reference. At the same time, the Council appropriated $400,000 of the City’s opioid settlement funds to fund grants reviewed and approved in accordance with said Policy.
Among other things, the Policy calls for the formation of an ad hoc committee to receive and review grant applications for the $400,000 set aside for disbursement per the Policy guidelines. Membership of the committee is outlined in the Policy.
As set forth in the Policy document, the committee’s responsibilities are:
• Review and score grant applications based on the priorities outlined in the Policy;
• Make funding recommendations to the City Council based on scoring results; and
• Ensure that the allocation process is transparent, fair, and equitable.
Reference is made to the Policy for additional guidance as to the Committee’s function, operation, and procedures.
The City of Augusta shall provide necessary staffing services to the Committee. The Committee shall establish the times and places of its meetings. Meetings shall be open to the public, and notice of such meetings shall be posted.
