Effective Monday, July 13th, all remaining offices, including Development Services and Assessing, located at Augusta City Hall will transition to a four-day operating schedule.
Under the new schedule, City Hall offices will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM and closed on Fridays.
Since March, two of the City’s most frequently used offices, the City Clerk’s Office and General Assistance, have successfully operated on a four-day schedule with extended daily hours. During that time, residents and business owners adapted well to the change and have benefited from increased access to services before and after traditional business hours.
Based on the success of that pilot, the City has decided to transition all City Hall departments to a consistent operating schedule. This change will simplify access to services by creating one schedule for all City Hall offices. This is not a reduction in service hours, but rather a reallocation of hours that allows the City to offer expanded access throughout the week while maintaining the same total number of service hours.
“Over the past several months, we've seen residents and businesses successfully adapt to the extended-hour schedule, and we've heard positive feedback about the accessibility it provides," said City Manager Jared Mills. "By moving all City Hall departments to a Monday through Thursday schedule, we're making it easier for residents to know when services are available while continuing to provide the level of service our community expects. Augusta has been one of the few remaining municipalities in the region operating primarily on a traditional five-day schedule, and this model has become increasingly common among municipalities across Maine. Not only does it improve public access through extended daily hours, but it also helps communities recruit and retain the talented employees needed to deliver high-quality municipal services in today's competitive workforce."
