Rummaging Through Maine's Familiar Civil War
by David Cheever

Dave Cheever served two terms as Maine State Archivist, and during that time led the effort to bring the agency's Civil War to the public as part of the observance of the War's sesquicentennial. The Maine State Archives has the most comprehensive collection of Civil War records of any state, and has been used for research on the war by dozens of national and state historians. Cheever gave more than 100 classroom and public presentations about the people, their exploits, and the issues of the conflict that was -- and remains -- the most disruptive and transformative event in Maine history.
