Positive Animal Rabies Case

Maine’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) notified the City of Augusta of an identified case of animal rabies in a skunk recently. Maine’s Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory confirmed the case.

Northern Avenue residents, please be vigilant. If you see any animals acting strange – please call the Augusta Police Department at 207-626-2370.

Rabies is common in wild animals in Maine. Make sure to never touch an animal that is wild or unknown to you. You should also make sure your animals are up to date on rabies vaccine and avoid leaving animals unattended. For more information on rabies, please visit www.maine.gov/dhhs/rabies.
