Parking District

*** Due to budget restraints the Parking District will be closed until further notice***

The Parking District is responsible for the parking enforcement in the Water Street business district of the City of Augusta.  The Parking District is managed by an appointed community member  Parking District CommitteeThe Parking District Committee is responsible for the management of the Parking District.

The Parking District has three parking enforcement officers who are supervised by Patrol Division Commander. The parking district is a separate entity  from the police department even though the parking enforcement officers are supervised by the police department.

Parking on City Streets can be challenging during the winter months as the City tries to remove snow and keep the streets passable for travelers, emergency responders and pedestrians on sidewalks. Parking on all City streets is prohibited from the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. from November 15th to April 15th; unless granted permission from the Police Department. The Police Department tries to work with people that have limited space for parking during the winter months. People can apply for parking on the street by using the form titled, Request for Permission for Overnight Parking. Once this form is complete you can drop it off at the Police Department, Parking District or e-mail it to me directly by using the link to the right of this page. You may also pick up one of these forms at the Police Department or the Parking District. The form will be reviewed by a supervisor and notification will be made to the person requesting permission whether or not the request was granted.

Winter Overnight Parking and Snow Removal Notifications

The Augusta Public Works Department will once again be using their automated Public Notification program (E-Notification) for notifications about snow removal. If you are already signed up, please check and update your information or remove yourself from the list if you do not wish to receive these messages. Also, the City of Augusta’s winter on-street parking ban begins November 15th. To park your vehicle on city streets from November 15th to April 15th between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., you must register with the Augusta Police Department. Applications are available at the Augusta Police Department or Request for Permission for Overnight Parking. If you are a landlord, please make your tenants aware of this information.

We recommend you sign up for the E-Notification program, please click here to sign up.

For people that live in the downtown area near Water Street and Commercial Street; the Parking District offers a 3 month parking pass. The cost of this pass is $35.00 which allows parking near their residence. This pass is a sticker that is placed on the windshield of a vehicle so that it is visible for officers to see. Persons with these passes still would need to apply for overnight parking permission through the Police Department. People can park on the east side of commercial Street at all times unless we are doing snow removal. During a storm Public Works agreed to work around the vehicles on this one section of street.

The Police Department, Public Works Department and Parking District work hard to ensure adequate parking for residents, business owners and visitors to the City of Augusta.
