Health & Welfare

The office due to short notice emergencies may occasionally be closed within the normal hours of operation as posted.
The Bureau of Health and Welfare provides essential and immediate assistance, through its General Assistance Program, to citizens in need of food, fuel, shelter, and medical attention. Assistance may be requested 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, and must be provided within 24 hours of determined eligibility. Referrals for other assistance are also made to other social and medical service agencies when appropriate.

If assistance is needed outside of normal operating hours (e.g. after hours, weekends, or holidays) and eligible for emergency assistance,  please contact 211 or the Augusta Police Department at 207-626-2370.
